Understand the Depth & Breadth of the Deception

The ancient Babylonian System of Nimrod is the World System of today.  Babylonian astrologers were the first known to have made scholarly observations of celestial bodies and relate them to mathematics, and their writings are the origin not only of the names of planets but of the Western zodiac, the use of base 60 in timekeeping, and much of what we know as geometry. The Babylonians named planets after their gods, but the reasons why a certain planet became associated with a certain god are lost to time. It is closely tied to their mythology and astrology, as the movements of the planets were deemed to reflect the intentions or actions of the gods.

Greek astronomers did not name their planets after gods, but they associated the planets with gods as well, mostly in line with the Babylonian tradition. The Babylonians knew one very bright planet as Ishtar, named for the goddess of love and beauty. This goddess became identified with the Greek goddess Aphrodite, and the planet was as well. The Babylonian planet Marduk, named for the king of the gods, similarly became associated with Zeus; Nergal with Ares, and Nebo with Hermes.

Greek learning was subsumed into the Roman world, and the Greek pantheon into the Roman, and thus the Greek associations with planets are preserved with their Roman names: Venus for Aphrodite, Mars for Ares, and so on.
