Bible reveals the Truth long before man discovered it

Do You Really Believe and Rely on the BIBLE?

Scoffers want you to think the Bible is just a storybook full of metaphors and it can't be taken seriously or literally.  Would it make any difference to you to know that the Bible is full of scientific and medical facts written thousands of years before man is said to have discovered them.  The Bible illuminates the Truth in our hearts and minds.  The following are just a few to think about ...

Bible is God's Word

The Word is God - Jesus Christ is God - Jesus Christ is the Word -   John 1:1-14

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World - John 8:12

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  - John 14:6

#1 Anesthesia & Sedation

The First Surgery and Patient was Asleep

The Bible had the answer for over 3,000 years written in Genesis 2:21-22 "And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man."

Modern surgical anesthesia was invented in the 1840s, with the first successful public demonstration of diethyl ether as a general anesthetic occurring on October 16, 1846.  Scientific discoveries in the late 18th and early 19th centuries paved the way for the development of modern anesthetic techniques.  Before this, surgery was always a last resort due to the pain associated with it.  Surgery was only for life threatening conditions focused on speed to limit blood loss.  Even in the US Civil War from 1861 to 1865 many soldiers lost limbs to amputations without being put to sleep and could have benefited from this advancement if widely practiced sooner.  These Bible passages have other implications of medical discoveries as well considering bone and organ transplants, etc.

#2 Washing Under Running Water

Cleanliness is Next to Godliness

In 1845 Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis from Vienna is horrified by the death rate of women who gave birth in hospitals.  30% died after childbirth.  Doctors would examine patients that died and without washing their hands, would go to the next ward and examine expectant mothers.  Normal practice because the presence of microscopic diseases wasn't known at that time.

The Bible again had the answer for over 3,000 years written in Leviticus 15:13 "And when he that hath an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean."

Dr. Semmelweis insisted that they wash their hands in running water and not just a bowl of water before each examination.  When they did that, the death rate immediately dropped to 2%.

#3 Oceanic Currents

Warm & Cold Continental Currents

Matthew Maury (1806-1873) was nicknamed "Pathfinder of the Seas" and is considered a founder of modern oceanography.    He was reading his Bible and noticed the passage Psalm 8:8. It says "... and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas."  This was written 2,800 years ago!  He said, "if God said there are paths in the sea, then I'm going to find them."

Maury analyzed thousands of ship logs to map ocean currents and winds, producing the first "Wind and Current Charts" in 1847.  His charts cut the voyage from New York to San Francisco by 47 days. He advocated for standardized sea lanes, improving safety.  He wrote extensively on the subject, and his book, The Physical Geography of the Sea (1855), was the first comprehensive work on oceanography to be published.

#4 Information in the Blood

Blood Gives Life to the Flesh

Bloodletting was the practice up till 120 years ago and many died because of this.  Just the opposite was really what was necessary by way of blood transfusions.  More than 1,000 years before Jesus Christ was born, the Bible stated this recently discovered truth. Leviticus 17:11 says "For the life of the flesh is in the blood..."

We can find out the health of our flesh by a sample of our blood.  Blood tests can evaluate the kidneys, liver, thyroid and heart.  It can also reveal diseases and conditions such as cancer, aids, diabetes, anemia and coronary heart disease.  Blood carries more than oxygen; it carries the language of life.

#5 Light Waves & Radio Waves

Electricity & Light Waves are 2 Forms of the Same Thing

In Job 38:35 God asked Job a very strange question back in 1,500 BC.  "Can you send out lightnings, that they may go, and say to you, 'Here we are!'?"

Did you know all electromagnetic radiation from radio waves to x-rays travel at the speed of light? This is why we have instantaneous wireless communications with someone on the other side of the earth.  The theory that light could be sent and then manifest itself in speech wasn't discovered till 1864.  James Clerk Maxwell (1831-79) was Professor of Natural Philosophy at King’s in the 1860s when he brought magnetism, electricity and light together in a unique and elegant system of equations.  He said the following, "...Christianity—that is, the religion of the Bible—is the only scheme or form of belief which disavows any possessions on such a tenure. Here alone all is free. You may fly to the ends of the world and find no God but the Author of Salvation. You may search the Scriptures and not find a text to stop you in your explorations. ... Let us follow the light."

#6 Modern Ship Design

Still the Best Overall Dimensions for Ships

God gave Noah the dimensions of the 1.5 million cubic foot ark he was to build.  In Genesis 6:15 "And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be 300 cubits, the breadth of it 50 cubits and the height of it 30 cubits."

In 1993 a scientific study was conducted by South Korean world class ship research center (KRISO).  They compared 12 hulls of different shapes and discovered that no modern design outperformed the biblical model.  The length of the ark was 6 times its width and 10 times its height.  Many contemporary ships are built with similar proportions.  Although the length-to-breadth ratio is usually chosen with regard to the power required to move them through the water.  The ark needed only to keep afloat.  Cargo ships, barges, and some tankers often use this 6:1 ratio to prioritize stability, efficiency, and cargo space, rather than speed.

#7 Quarantine those with Infectious Diseases

Throughout history, even advanced cultures understood nothing about bacteria. The Black Death of the 1300s killed 50 million+ in Europe alone—over half the population. During this plague, Jews (who obeyed biblical instructions on quarantine and hygiene) experienced far lower infection rates.   When families fell ill, it was attributed to bad air.  Only in the 1800s did advances in bacterial study give researchers understanding of the importance of quarantine, sanitation and hygiene.

Moses wrote about it 3200 years ago in Leviticus 13:46 All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.

Leviticus chapter 14 details the instructions of testing and cleaning the home and even demolition of part or the whole home and place it away from the people in an unclean place if the plague persists.

#8 The Water Cycle of the Earth

The water cycle (hydrologic cycle) is the continuous movement of water on, above, and below Earth's surface, driven by solar energy and the characteristics of water.   Ancient intellectuals believed all water originated below the Earth’s surface. Around 800 b.c.e., Homer said a huge cavern inside Earth supplied all river water. By the fourth century b.c.e., Greek philosophers hypothesized that the hydrologic process was cyclical, and that Homer’s theory had not been correct. Yet it wasn’t until 1580 that a full scientific explanation of the cycle was delivered by Bernard Palissy—about 2,500 years after King Solomon had described it in detail.   Ecclesiastes 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
